All Applications MUST be submitted by 11:59 PM on 6/30/2025. 

Applications must be completely filled out to be considered.

All scholarship awards are based on the funds raised during our 2025 Campaign. 

Scholarship awards are one-time awards ranging from $500 to $2000; all scholarship award checks are written directly to the Institution.

2025 SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

General Scholarship Application

Know Your ABCs of Life will be awarding at least 5 scholarships in this category.  We are committed to supporting every student through mentorship and financial resources. We are excited to help each student to achieve their future goals….all they have to do is Decide to Decide to apply!!  Good Luck!


Requirements:

1. Upload High School Transcript (c/o 2024) or College Transcript

2. Upload Application Video via youtube link

a. In three minutes or less, introduce yourself, discuss your goals and future aspirations, and share why you should be awarded this scholarship.

3. Upload Response to ONE of the THREE  essay questions in 500-600 words, grammar, spelling, and overall quality of writing will be considered. Your name, email address and phone number should be included in the header of your submission:

i. Discuss a time when you failed or faced a setback. How did you bounce back from it?

ii. Reflect on a significant life experience and how it has shaped your values and goals.

iii. Describe a personal philosophy or motto that guides your Actions Behaviors, Choices and Decisions and provide at least 2 examples.

4. One letter of recommendation from a Teacher, Mentor, or Community Leader.

Barbara Allen Brice – In Everything Give Thanks Scholarship

The Barbara Allen Brice - In Everything Give Thanks Scholarship - Ms. Barbara Allen Brice was an amazing woman, mother, aunt and friend. In honor of the legacy of Ms. Brice, students will write an essay or share an artistic expression that demonstrates their commitment to education and excellence and their understanding of compassion, love and family. These are the qualities that defines her legacy. This Scholarship will be a minimum of $1000


Requirements:

1. Upload High School Transcript (c/o 2024) or College Transcript

2. Upload Application Video

a. In three minutes or less, introduce yourself, discuss what gratitude means to you and how do you demonstrate gratitude.

3. Upload Response to two short answer questions, grammar, spelling, and overall quality of writing will be considered. Your name, email address and phone number should be included in the header of your submission:

a. Please answer the following short answer questions in less than 500 - 600 characters each:

i. Why is education important? How are you going to use your education to achieve your goals?

ii. Why should I be awarded this scholarship?

Deborah L Cammick Spirit of Love Scholarship

Deborah L Cammick Spirit of Love Scholarship was established in the memory of Deborah L Cammick, mother-in-love of LaKeisha McClendon, founder of Know Your ABCs of Life. The scholarship is for a student who has a commitment to service and love for people, and demonstrates this love through service, empathy and giving back to others.  Ms. Cammick believed in the mission of Know Your ABCs of Life and with your donation, her legacy will continue.


Requirements :

1. Upload High School Transcript (c/o 2024) or College Transcript

2. Upload Recent Photo

3. Upload Application Video

a. In three minutes or less, introduce yourself, share your strengths and discuss what love means to you.

4. Upload Response to two short answer questions, grammar, spelling, and overall quality of writing will be considered. Your name, email address and phone number should be included in the header of your submission:

a. Please answer the following short answer questions in less than 500 - 600 characters each:

i. How do you demonstrate it to others?

ii. If you could solve one issuing facing our community, what issue would you solve and how would you solve it?

Sterling and Mildred Collick Next Generation (Next-Gen) Scholarship

This scholarship is created in honor of Mildred Collick and the  late Sterling Collick, Sr. by their children and family.  The Collicks raised their 10 children to believe in hard work, education, entrepreneurship, and, most importantly, family and community. 


This scholarship is to support individuals with their goals in honor of the Collicks Legacy. 


Submissions will be review by the Next-Gen Scholarship Committee, and judged on the following

criteria:

  1. African American seniors attending an accredited Maryland high school or GED program located in Baltimore City or County and been accepted to a two or four-year college/university or accredited post high school trade/vocational or allied program. Must show proof of acceptance and/or enrollment intent into program.
  2. Proof of high school or GED program completion or upcoming completion. If still enrolled, an official notification of the planned completion date from the institution will be acceptable.
  3. Proof of college, university, trade school, or allied program acceptance
  4. Essay Quality: thoroughness in answering the question below, writing skills (proper grammar, spelling, punctuation, and formatting).
    1. In 500 – 700 words, respond to one of the following:
      1. Describe how your cultural experiences and background have shaped your future pursuits and goals. Future pursuits and goals must be clearly defined.
      2. What does “having GRIT” mean to you and how do you demonstrate grit in pursuit of your future goals. Future pursuits and goals must be clearly defined.
  5. Description of community and civic involvement (unpaid volunteer work). A written description from the applicant, or a certificate of contribution will be acceptable. Descriptions of the applicant’s involvement from a community-based organization will receive higher preference. Descriptions should describe the applicant’s community involvement.
  6. One personal reference describing the applicant’s character, goals, and spirit for success.
  7. Optional: Certifications and awards may be submitted for consideration.
